Marquee TV and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment have announced their upcoming co-production of “St. John Passion” by Johann Sebastian Bach. Premiering on Good Friday, April 2, 2021, the film will be available to watch on Marquee TV and OAE Player.

Filmed by British cinematographer Grant Gee at the Battersea Arts Centre in London, the cast is led by musical director and tenor soloist Mark Padmore, and includes Gerald Finley as Christus, Neal Davies as Pilate, Jonathan Brown as Peter, and Mark Padmore as the Evangelist. The cast also includes sopranos Jessica Cale, Rowan Pierce, and Daisy Walford; altos Helen Charlston, David Clegg, and Bethany Horak-Hallett; tenors Hugo Hymas and Laurence Kilsby; and bass Philip Tebb.

“Marquee TV is delighted to be working with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment in this way for the first time,” writes Marquee TV Editorial Director Susannah Simons in a press release. “Since their earliest concerts, the OAE has been an example of how to innovate and do things a little bit differently, and at a time when the industry has had to innovate more than ever, this is a wonderful example of a creative team rising to the occasion, producing something both musically and visually emotive and inspiring. For this work to be touching students so directly adds to its importance.”
