The Bayerische Staatsoper has announced that it will livestream the premiere of Richard Strauss’ “Der Rosenkavalier” on March 21, 2021.

Soprano Marlis Petersen will debut in the role of Die Feldmarschallin alongside Christof Fischesser who will perform the role of Baron Ochs and Samantha Hankey who will sing the role of Octavian. The performance will also star Johannes Martin Kränzle, Katharina Konradi, Daniela Köhler, Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke, Ursula Hesse von den Steinen, Martin Snell, Manuel Günther, Caspar Singh, Christian Rieger, Galeano Salas, Eliza Boom, and George Vîrban.

Vladimir Jurowski conducts the Bayerisches Staatsorchester in a production by Barrie Kosky. Set design is by Rufus Didwiszus, while Victoria Behr is responsible for costumes.

The livestream will be available for viewing on March 21 at 3:30 p.m. CET on STAATSOPER.TV, ARTE.TV, ARTE Concert, and BR-KLASSIK Concert. The recording will be available on VOD for 30 days, starting March 23, 2021.

The news comes as the opera house canceled all performances in March, after the decision of the German federal government to extend the lockdown in Germany until March 28, 2021.
