The Semperoper Dresden has announced a cast change for the Jan. 19, 2019 performance of “La Traviata.”

The company announced that Markus Werba will step in for Antonio Yang as Giorgio Germont.

It’s the latest cast change in the company’s “La Traviata,” which has seen a number of cancellations throughout the run.

Werba is currently rehearsing “Don Giovanni” at the Berlin State Opera, where he performs at the end of January. He also sings “Agnese” at the Teatro Regio di Torino and “Ariadne auf Naxos” and “Die Tote Städt” at the Teatro alla Scala.

Yang returns to the Semperoper stage later in February for “Der Fliegende Holländer” and for “Les Huguenots.”

Werba joins Ekaterina Bakanova and Wookyung Kim who round out the cast as Violetta and Alfredo. Stefano Ranzani conducts the performance, which also marks the final “La Traviata” of the season.
