Mariusz Treliński Wins Major Polish Award

By Francisco Salazar

Mariusz Treliński has won this year’s Konrad Swinarski Award for his staging of Moniuszko’s “Halka.”

The production opened at the Theater an der Wien on Dec. 15 and received rave reviews. Critics noted, “his work with this current production’s ensemble sees a staging which well-mirrors the score, and with the protagonists generally performing with compelling realism and credibility.”

The production was streamed worldwide and starred Piotr Beczala, Corrine Winters, and Tomasz Konieczny.

Treliński is the artistic director of the Polish National Opera and is well known for having directed productions at the Metropolitan Opera, Mariinsky Theatre, Prague National Opera, Baden-Baden Festival, and Washington National Opera.

He is also a filmmaker whose films have screened at the Venice Film Festival and Polish Film Festival.
