Canadian baritone Étienne Dupuis will replace Polish singer Mariusz Kwiecień for the final three performances of Mozart and Da Ponte’s opera “Le Nozze di Figaro” at the Metropolitan Opera House, according to the official statement on the company’s website.

Kwiecień has withdrawn from the production due to illness. Dupuis will perform the role of Count Almaviva on Feb. 14, 19, and 22.

Kwiecień has already withdrawn from the presentations of the opera on Feb. 5, 8 and 11, with Dupuis as the replacement.

Dupuis will perform alongside Anita Hartig, Hanna-Elisabeth Müller, Marianne Crebassa, Maurizio Muraro, MaryAnn McCormick, and Adam Plachetka in the title role. Cornelius Meister will conduct the production by Sir Richard Eyre.

Dupuis has recently performed the title role in Mozart and Da Ponte’s “Don Giovanni” and the role of Rodrigo in Verdi, du Locle and Méry’s “Don Carlo” at the Opéra National de Paris, as well as the title role in Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” at the L’Opéra de Montréal, among others.

Kwiecień is set to be back onstage for the performances of “Don Carlo” at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden on June 29, 2020.
