Mariusz Kwiecień Cancels ‘Le Nozze Di Figaro’ In Munich

By Francisco Salazar

Mariusz Kwiecień has withdrawn from today’s performance of Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro.”

The Bayerische Staatsoper announced that due to illness the baritone would not be able to perform the role of the Count. As a result, Christoph Pohl will replace the baritone.

Pohl is currently performing a new production of Meyerbeer’s “Les Huguenots” at the Semperoper Dresden. He has performed at the Royal Opera, Oper Frankfurt, Staatsoper Hamburg, Theater an der Wien, and Teatro La Fenice. Next season he performs five leading roles at the Semperoper Dresden and returns to the Staatsoper Hamburg.

Pohl joins a cast that includes Rachel Willis-Sørensen, Olga Kulchynska, Alex Esposito, Rachael Wilson, and Anne Sofie von Otter. Ivor Bolton conducts the production by Christof Loy.

Kwiecień returns to the stage for two performances of Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore” at the Bayerische Staatsoper on July 28 and 30.
