Marina Rebeka is set to open the Teatro alla Scala in “Otello.”

According to Beckmesser, the soprano will sing the role of Desdemona alongside Jonas Kaufmann and will open the 2020-21 season. The news is part of Alexander Pereira’s final plans before Dominque Meyer takes over as General Director.

Rebeka made her Teatro alla Scala in 2019 in the role of Violetta in “La Traviata” and is set to return to La Scala for two performance of “La Traviata” and a recital.

The soprano recently made her role debut as Tatiana in “Eugene Onegin” at the Wiener Staatsoper and is set to make her role debut as Leonora in “Il Trovatore” in Vienna. This season she will also perform in Hamburg and Dortmund.

The Teatro alla Scala recently opened the 2019-20 season with a production of “Tosca” and is set to open “Romeo et Juliette” this month with Diana Damrau and Vittorio Grigolo.
