Marina Rebeka, Sophie Koch & Jean-François Borras Headline Théâtre du Capitole’s 2019-20 Season

The Théâtre du Capitole has announced its 2019-20 season featuring nine operatic productions and a number of recitals. Here is a look at what to expect. 

Marina Rebeka and Klára Kolonits share the title role in Bellini’s “Norma” in a new production by Anne Delbée. The cast is rounded out by Karine Deshayes and Ilseyar Khayrullova who portraya Adalgisa, Martin Mühle and Airam Hernández as Pollione, and Bálint Szabó and Julien Véronèse sharing the role of Oroveso.

Giampaolo Bisanti conducts.

Performance Dates: Sept. 26 – Oct 10, 2019

Anaïs Constans stars as Blanche de la Force in Poulenc’s “Dialogues des Carmélites” with Anaïk Morel, Janina Baechle, Catherine Hunold, Jodie Devos, Jean-François Lapointe, Thomas Bettinger, Vincent Ordonneau, and Jérôme Boutillier. Jean-François Verdier conducts the revival production by Olivier Py.

Performance Dates: Nov. 22-Dec. 1, 2019

Marc Bleuse’s  “L’Annonce Faite a Marie” makes its world premiere with conductor Pierre Bleuse in a production by Jean-François Gardeil. The work stars Clémence Garciam, Sarah Laulan, Philippe Estèphe, Pierre-Yves Pruvot, Lionel Sarrazin, Laurence Roy, and Jean-François Gardeil.

Performance Dates: Nov. 23 & 24, 2019

Emiliano Gonzalez Toro stars as Monteverdi’s “L’Orfeo” in a production by Mathilde Étienne. Emöke Baráth, Jérôme Varnier, Anthea Pichanick, Alix Le Saux, and Fulvio Bettini round out the cast.

Performance Dates: Dec. 5 & 6, 2019

Aurélien Bory directs a new production of Wagner’s “Parsifal.” Frank Beermann conducts a distinguished cast that is lead by Nikolai Schukoff,  Sophie Koch, Peter Rose, Matthias Goerne, and Pierre-Yves Pruvot.

Performance Dates: Jan. 26-Feb. 4, 2020

Sesto Quatrini conducts Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore” in Arnaud Bernard’s production. Otar Jorjikia and Kévin Amiel share the role of Nemorino, Vannina Santoni and Gabrielle Philiponet are Adina, while Mattia Olivieri and Ilya Silchukov are Belcore. Marc Barrard and Julien Véronèse round out the cast as Dulcamara.

Performance Dates: Feb. 27 – March 15, 2020

Rameau’s famed work “Platée” gets a new production headed by conductor Hervé Niquet and directed by Gilles et Corinne Benizio. Mathias Vidal sings the title role of Platée alongside Marie Perbost, Enguerrand de Hys, Jean-Christophe Lanièce, Jean-Vincent Blot, Marie-Laure Garnier, Marc Labonnette, and Marianne Croux.

Performance Dates: March 28 – April 4, 2020

Janacek’s “Jenůfa” returns to the company with Angela Denoke, Marie-Adeline Henry, Marius Brenciu, Amadi Lagha, and Stefania Toczyska. Florian Krumpöck conducts the Nicolas Joel production.

Performance Dates: May 10 – 16, 2020

The final production of the season will Boito’s “Mefistofele” with Francesco Angelico conducting and Jean-Louis Grinda directing a new production. The production will star Nicolas Courjal in the title role, Jean-François Borras as Faust, Chiara Isotton as Margherita, and Béatrice Uria-Monzon as Elena.

Recitals

Soile Isokoski and pianist Ilkka Paananen join forces for a recital of works by Yrjö Kilpinen, Richard Wagner, Henri Duparc, and Wilhelm Peterson-Berger.

Performance Date: Oct. 4, 2019

Ludovic Tézier and Thuy Anh Vuong perform a recital. Works to be determined.

Performance Date: Oct. 28, 2019

Jessica Pratt performs a program of works by Donizetti and Bellini. She is joined by pianist Fabio Centanni.

Performance Date:  Nov. 9, 2019

Annick Massis and pianist Antoine Palloc join forces for music by Bellini and Poulenc. The program will also include Poulenc’s “La Voix humaine.”

Performance Date: Feb. 14, 2020

Strauss’ Four Last Songs and music by Rachmaninov and Henri Duparc make up Elsa Dreisig’s recital with pianist Jonathan Ware.

Performance Date: April 27, 2020

Michael Spyres and pianist Mathieu Pordoy present a program of music by Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert, Berlioz, Bellini, Rossini, Liszt, and Verdi.
