Marina Rebeka, Elisabeth Teige & Rufus Wainwright Highlight OperaVision’s November Streams

By Francisco Salazar

OperaVision has announced its November programming.

The month begins with Royal Swedish Opera’s stream of Prima Donna on Nov. 5. The work is the first venture into opera by Rufus Wainwright and the story of a self-destructive diva, inspired by Maria Callas.

On Nov. 10 Staatsoper Hannover will stream “Carmen” in a new arrangement for chamber ensemble by Marius Felix Lange, directed by Barbora Horáková. Restrictions in Germany mean that opera houses cannot perform in front of live audiences and the performance will be played out live for free via streaming and shared with audiences across the world.

The Teatro Real Madrid will showcase its historic semi-staged production of Verdi’s “La Traviata” with Marina Rebeka as Violetta and Michael Fabiano as Alfredo on Nov. 14.

The Dutch National Opera will showcase a new work that opened the season in Amsterdam, “FAUST [working title].” The large-scale collage performance with chorus, orchestra, soloists, and a wealth of music from 12 composers ranging from classical to lesser-known repertoire will be streamed on Nov. 20.

The final stream of the month will be from the Den Norske Opera. The Kirsten Flagstad Jubilee Concert will be shown on Nov. 29 and will feature Astrid Nordstad (mezzo-soprano), Birgitte Christensen (soprano), Eli Kristin Hanssveen (soprano), Elisabeth Teige (soprano), Henrik Engelsviken (tenor), Marita Sølberg (soprano), Renate Ekerhovd (soprano) and Yngve Søberg (baritone).
