The Teatro Real de Madrid presented a special gala honoring the very first winners of the Premios Teatro Real on June 6, 2022.

The prizes honored the merits of the artists linked to the institution who shone during the 2020-2021 season.

There were two categories of distinctions: one institutional and the other artistic. The winners of the institutional category include José María Álvarez-Pallete, José Bogas, Florentino Pérez and Dr. Santiago Moreno.

The winners of the artistic category were awarded to director Christof Loy, conductor Nicola Luisotti, soprano Marina Rebeka, baritone Carlos Álvarez and tenor Michael Fabiano.  Rebeka and Fabiano headlined a production of “La Traviata” in 2020 which represented the first time that audiences had a chance to see opera following the lockdown due to COVID-19.

The gala was dedicated to the memory of legendary mezzo Tereza Berganza, the Patron of Honor of the Theatre.
