Marina Rebeka has canceled her upcoming performances of Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 at the Teatro alla Scala.

The soprano took to social media and said, “It is with a heavy heart that I announce my inability to participate in the production of Mahler’s 8th Symphony at Teatro alla Scala. Unfortunately, my health has prevented me from being able to take part in this incredible opportunity.”

The Milan Theater has yet to announce a replacement for the concert which is scheduled to be held on May 18 to 20, 2023. Riccardo Chailly conducts the symphony which will also star Krassimira Stoyanova, Regula Mühlemann, Wiebke Lehmkuhl, Okka von der Damerau, Klaus Florian Vogt,  Andrè Schuen, and Ain Anger.

Rebeka returns to the stage in June for a new production of “Il Trovatore” at the Royal Opera.
