Marilyn Horne Receives Lifetime Achievement Award at 2021 Grammys

Marilyn Horne received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2021 Grammy Award Ceremony.

The recognition celebrates performers who have made outstanding contributions of artistic significance to the field of recording. Horne was recognized alongside Selena, the Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, Lionel Hampton, Salt-N-Pepa, and Talking Heads.

Horne has won four Grammys and received 15 nominations. She won for her 1993 recording of “Semele, her 1983 album Leontyne Price & Marilyn Horne In Concert At The Met, her 1981 album Live From Lincoln Center – Sutherland/Horne/Pavarotti, and her 1964 album The Age Of Bel Canto: Operatic Scenes.

The Grammy Awards were held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles in a socially distanced ceremony. This year’s classical awards went to the Metropolitan Opera, Sarah Brailey, and Isabel Leonard, among others. The top awards of the evening went to Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, and Harry Styles.
