The Mariinsky Theatre has doubled down on its support of Plácido Domingo while announcing that the famed artist will appear at the White Night Festival on July 2, 2021. He will take on the role of Rodrigo, Marquis de Posa in Verdi’s “Don Carlo.”

It has been a tough few weeks for Domingo who was charged by the American Guild of Musical Artists for sexual misconduct. Then he was released from his contract at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid before he himself resigned from other engagements throughout his home country.

Then the Washington National Opera removed his name from its young artist program.

In addition to his work with the Mariinsky Theatre, he is also  performing the title role of “Simon Boccanegra” with the company at the Staatsoper Hamburg on March 22-April 2, 2020.
