Maria Guleghina Vocal Competition Announced

By Francisco Salazar

The Armenian National Opera and Ballet Theatre has announced the first Maria Guleghina Vocal Competition.

The announcement was made on Sept. 5, 2024, at the theater where the Ukrainian soprano was performing in a production of Puccini’s “Turandot.”

No further details were released but it was announced that one of the prizes was to participate in a production at the Armenian theater.

Guleghina returned to the stage this past year after a few years of absence. She will perform a solo concert later this month in Armenia and give masterclasses in Berlin. She will also serve as a judge at the Francisco Vinas International Competition in Barcelona.

The soprano is well known for her interpretations of Puccini and Verdi heroines.
