
Maria Callas Brazilian Singing Competition Announces 2026 Winners
By David SalazarWinners for the 24th Maria Callas Brazilian Singing Competition were announced this week.
In the male category, 19-year-old Argentine bass Román Coccalotto took first prize, followed by Brazilian baritone Leandro Abreu in second and Mexican tenor Christopher Gonzalez in third.
Brazilian sopranos swept the female category, with Elisa Braga claiming first prize, Marília Carvalho and Anna Hernandez sharing second, and Mayra Terzian placing third.
The jury was presided over by André Dos Santos and included Myrtò Papatanasiu, Vincenzo De Vivo, José Velasco, Maria Jaunarena, and Nicolás Vásquez Muñoz.
Directed by founder Paulo Esper, the competition is presented by Cia Ópera São Paulo and Amigos da Ópera de Jacareí, in partnership with the Fundação Cultural de Jacareí, the State Government of São Paulo, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura San Paolo, and the Consulate General of Italy in São Paulo.
This year’s competition drew 93 singers from 11 Latin American countries.
