María Bayo Named Director of Young Artist Program at Palau de les Arts

By Francisco Salazar

María Bayo has been named the new director of the Center for Perfeccionament at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia.

The soprano will take over the position in September but will begin listening to auditions for upcoming young artists in March.

In a statement, Bayo noted that she hopes to bring her knowledge from the stage and from having worked with the best conductors, stage directors, and singers in the industry.

Bayo also noted that Les Arts remains the only Spanish theater where she never performed. However, she clarified that she had been offered to sing the roles of Despina and Zerlina but she declined because she noted it was not the right fit for her voice at that time.

Bayo becomes the latest director of the program following such renowned industry leaders as Alberto Zedda, Ruggero Raimondi, and Davide Livermore.

Bayo is a recognized soprano who has performed at the Teatro Real, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Teatro alla Scala, Metropolitan Opera, and La Monnaie.
