María Bayo, Gustavo Dudamel & Emilio Sagi Among Winners of the Bellas Artes Gold Medals

The Spanish government has announced the winners of the Bella Artes Gold Medals.

This year, 32 personalities were given the honors for their efforts in the cultural world. Among the recipients were Emilio Sagi for his work as a director, Gustavo Dudamel for his work as conductor and ambassador of the musical world. María Bayo was also among the recognized artists as well as the Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer.

Bayo is one of Spain’s greatest sopranos who has specialized in the works of Rossini and Mozart. She is also a champoin of Zarzuela. Bayo has also performed at the Teatro alla Scala di Milano, Berlin State Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera House.

Sagi is a well-known director who has been artistic director of the Teatro Real de Madrid and Teatro Arriaga de Bilbao. He has also directed at the world’s leading theaters including the Teatro alla Scala and Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.

Meanwhile, Dudamel is the Music Director of the LA Philharmonic and an award-winning musician who has been named on Time as one of the world’s most influential people and has collaborated with the likes of Coldplay, Beyoncé, and Bruno Mars.

Zimmer is an Oscar winner who has collaborated on such films as The Dark Knight trilogy, “Driving Miss Daisy,” “Thelma & Louise,” and “Pirates of the Caribbean” series.
