Maria Agresta, Anna Pirozzi & Maria José Siri Lead Teatro Massimo’s 2022 Season

The Teatro Massimo di Palermo has announced its 2022 season featuring opera and concerts. Here is a look at the productions the company will be performing.

The season opens with Verdi’s “Les vêpres siciliennes” starring Selene Zanetti, Piero Pretti, Leonardo Caimi, Gezim Mishketa, Luca Tittoto, and Fabrizio Beggi. Omer Meir Wellber conducts the production by Emma Dante.

Performance Dates: Jan. 20-26, 2022

Plácido Domingo and Gabriele Viviani headline Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra” with Anastasia Bartoli, Serena Gamberoni, Marko Mimica, Rafal Siwek, and Azer Zada. Francesco Ivan Ciampa conducts Sylvano Bussotti’s new production.

Performance Dates: Feb. 19-27, 2022

Maria Agresta and Marta Torbidoni headline Donizetti’s “Roberto Devereux” with Vasilisa Berzhanskaya, Chiara Amarù, John Osborn, and Davide Luciano. Roberto Abbado conducts Alessandro Talevi’s production.

Performance Dates: March 20-27, 2022

Anna Pirozzi and Chiara Isotton sing the title role of Puccini’s “Tosca” with Fabio Sartori and Amartuvshin Enkhbat. Valerio Galli conducts Mario Pontiggia’s production.

Performance Dates: April 29-May 4, 2022

Gery Palazzotto’s “Cenere” will star Gigi Borruso.

Performance Dates: May 13 & 14, 2022

“Prometeo” will feature music by Luigi Nono, Alexander Scriabin, and Beethoven and will be conducted by Gabriele Ferro.

Performance Dates: June 3-5, 2022

Cimarosa’s “Il matrimonio segreto” will be conducted by Davide Levi and directed by Roberto Catalano. The production will star Vincenzo Taormina, Chiara Amarù, Omar Montanari, and Giorgio Misseri.

Performance Dates: Sept. 30-Oct. 5, 2022

The season concludes with Verdi’s “Nabucco” starring Artur Rucinski and Alberto Gazale in the title role. The opera will also star Ewa Plonka, Maria José Siri, Silvia Beltrami, and Luca Tittoto.

Performance Dates: Oct. 23-30, 2022

Concert

Plácido Domingo, Arturo Chacón Cruz, and Lucero Tena team up for Noche Española with music by Ruperto Chapì, Enrique Granados, Isaac Albéniz, and Manuel de Falla.

Performance Dates: March 1, 2022

Maria Agresta and Vasilisa Berzhanskaya perform a recital alongside Michele D’Elia.

Performance Dates: March 22, 2022

Michele Mariotti conducts Mahler’s Symphony No.2.

Performance Dates: May 12, 2022

Omer Meir Wellber conducts Verdi’s Messa da Requiem.

Performance Dates: May 23, 2022

Michele Spotti conducts a program of Meyerbeer and Verdi.
