Marble City Opera Unveils 2024-25 Season

Marble City Opera has announced its 2024-25 season.

First up is “Tenors, Tuxedos, and Stalactites.” The showcase will take place inside the Historic Cherokee Caverns in Knoxville, Tennessee. This is the third year the company presents a concert in the cave.

Performance Date: August 17, 2024

Then comes the Tennessee premiere of Susan Kander and Roberta Gumbel’s “dwb (driving while black).” The opera stars Allison Sanders. Cremaine Booker will be music director and perform the cello during the performances. Ivan Griffin directs.

Performance Date: Oct. 11 & 12, 2024

That is followed by Lee Hoiby’s “Bon Appétit!” Following the performance, guests will get a chance to engage with instructors to prepare their own cakes that they can then take home and enjoy. The showcase stars Ryan Colbert as Julia Child.

Performance Date: Nov. 14, 2024

The first event of 2025 is a “Pop-Up Opera Party” fundraising gala at the Dogwood Center at the Knoxville Botanical Gardens.

Performance Date: Jan. 25, 2025

Soprano Kayla Beard then headlines a performance of Jake Heggie’s “Eve Song” cycle.

Performance Date: March 6, 2025

There will then be a production of “The Human Voice.”

Performance Date: April 3-5, 2025

Closing out the mainstage season is “Pagliacci,” which will be presented in four different venues.

Performance Date: June 5-7, 2024
