The American Symphony Orchestra is set to present the U.S. premiere of Sergei Taneyev’s “At the Reading of a Psalm” on July 15, 2022 at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

The new work will star soprano Mané Galoyan, mezzo-soprano Eve Gigliotti, tenor Terrence Chin-Loy, and bass Christian Zaremba. Leon Botstein conducts the performance, which will also feature the Bard Festival Chorale.

The work, which was created as a statement on Russian Orthodox faith at the start of World War I, features three movements, each comprised of three parts. “At the Reading of a Psalm” is based on a poem by Aleksey Khomyakov. The piece premiered in 1915 and was conducted by Serge Koussevitzky.

The concert was initially scheduled for Jan. 28, 2022 but was postponed due to the emergence of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

The American Symphony Orchestra is set to record this work prior to the July 15 performance with the intention of a future release.
