The newly formed Malta National Opera (MNO) is set to inaugurate with a production of “Falstaff.”

The new company, , created to return Malta to the international operatic scene and make best use of the beautiful and historic ⁦Teatru Manoel, will be under the creative direction of Maltese tenor Nico Darmanin, MNO. The organization will join forces with Teatru Manoel to begin a new chapter of international partnership and artistic ambition with the aim of bringing Maltese audiences classical works that reflect the highest operatic standards and a bold, contemporary vision for the future.

The new production by Barbara Diana is set in the 1960s and will be conducted by Federico Tibone.

The production will open on Feb. 22 and will run through March 1, 2026.
