Malmö Opera is set to present Jonas Forssell’s “Death and the Maiden.”

The opera, which premiered in 2008, will be directed by Tobias Theorell and will showcase a completely new interpretation of Forssell’s dramatic opera about guilt and reconciliation.

Patrik Ringborg conducts a cast that includes Julia Sporsén, Fredrik Zetterström, and Dimitris Paksoglou.

“Death and the Maiden” is based on a play by Ariel Dorfman, who also wrote the libretto for the opera. He also co-wrote the screenplay when the story was made into a movie in 1994, directed by Roman Polanski and starring Sigourney Weaver and Ben Kingsley.

The opera will be presented between May 18 and June 9, 2024.
