Malmö Opera will present the Scandinavian premiere of “The Shining” on August 22, 2026.

The opera is based on Stephen King’s 1977 novel and features music by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Paul Moravec and a libretto by Pulitzer Prize-winning librettist Mark Campbell. British stage director Keith Warner leads the production, with Malmö Opera Principal Guest Conductor Patrik Ringborg on the podium.

The cast is led by Peter Kajlinger and Cornelia Beskow in the roles of Jack and Wendy Torrance, with Luthando Qave as Dick Hallorann. Gotte Frid Giertz, Gabriel von Platen, Bàlint György will alternate in the role of Danny Torrance. Other cast members include Per Lindström, Christan Damsgaard-Madsen, and Fredrik Zetterström, among others.

The production is a co-production between Malmö Opera and the Finnish National Opera and Ballet in Helsinki.
