The board of Malmö Opera announced that Christina Hörnell will be the new CEO and artistic director of Malmö Opera.

Hörnell will succeed acting CEO Bengt Hall, who aided the board in the search for a suitable candidate to fill the permanent position.

Hörnell previously served as a chorus master at the Royal Opera in Stockholm for 19 years and most recently held the position of Director musices at Linköping University.

“I am thrilled and inspired. Theater and performing arts play vital roles in our society. I eagerly anticipate joining Malmö Opera and contributing to the development of musical theater in the region,” Hörnell said in a press release.

Hörnell will assume her new role as CEO and artistic director on Oct. 1, 2023 and runs through Sept. 30, 2027.
