Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Postpones Beethoven Concert

By Francisco Salazar

The Maggio Musicale Fiorentino has postponed its Jan. 4 concert.

The company announced that the concert was postponed due to the increase in precautionary quarantines and the number of infections. The company also noted that the use of FFP2 masks by the Chorus makes it difficult to sing Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9

As a result, the theater will reschedule the performance for a future date.

The concert was supposed to mark the end of the complete cycle of Beethoven’s symphonies. Zubin Mehta was set to conduct Symphonies no. 8 and no. 9 with soloists Mandy Fredrich, Marie-Claude Chappuis, AJ Glueckert, and Franz-Josef Selig.

All ticket holders will get a reimbursement for those who wish to do so.

Mehta began the Beethoven cycle in September and has been conducting the symphonies this season throughout the fall season.
