Madison Lyric Stage to Perform ‘Elektra’

By Francisco Salazar

Madison Lyric Stage will present Richard Strauss’ “Elektra.”

The opera will be performed from June 7 to 9, 2024, marking the first time the work has ever been presented in the state of Connecticut.

Inspired by the Greek tragedy by Sophocles, the opera will star Mary McCue in the title character, Allison Waggener as Chrysothemis, Amy Maude Helfer as Klytëmnestra, Daniel Hague as Orest, and Marc Deaton as Klytëmnestra’s lover Aegist. Marc Deaton directs and Nathaniel Baker will conduct.

In a statement, Deaton said, “’Elektra’ is one of the most frequently performed operas based on classical Greek mythology, yet strangely enough has never been performed in Connecticut. Prepare to be spellbound, as we bring you this unforgettable journey into a haunted world of passion, revenge, and murder.”

The opera will be performed at the Deacon John Grave House and will be sung in its original German, with English subtitles.
