Madison Lyric Stage Announces 2019 Season

The Madison Lyric Stage has announced that its 2019 mainstage season which will include two operas and one musical. For the purposes of this release, we will only concentrate on the two operatic presentations the season will offer.

This season the Madison Lyric Stage will continue its partnership with the Deacon John Grave House in the Madison historic district and will present its entire season inside and on the grounds of the historic home. Marc Deaton will direct every production.

Main Stage 

The first opera that will be presented is Carlisle Floyd’s “Of Mice and Men” based on the John Steinbeck novel. Composed in 1970, the work has become a  masterpiece of American opera.

Marc Deaton stars as Lennie, the simpleton who doesn’t know his own strength while Daniel Hague will portray George, the only friend he’s ever known.

Performance Dates: May 31 – June 9 (Six Performances)

The second and final opera of the season will be “Hansel and Gretel.” The classic by Engelbert Humperdinck is just in time for the fall season.

The cast will be announced later this year.
