Madison Leonard, Matilda Sterby, Cecelia Hall, Zahid Siddiqui Headline Garsington Opera’s 2026 Season

Garsington Opera has announced its 2026 season.

First up is Verdi’s “La Traviata.” The production stars Madison Leonard as Violetta Valéry, Oleksiy Palchykov as Alfredo Germont, and Roland Wood as Giorgio Germont. Douglas Boyd conducts, and Louisa Muller directs. The production is sung in Italian with English supertitles and is a co-production with Santa Fe Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and The Dallas Opera.

Performance Dates: May 27 – July 24, 2026


Next up is Strauss’s “Der Rosenkavalier.” Matilda Sterby sings the Marschallin, Andreas Bauer Kanabas performs Baron Ochs, and Niamh O’Sullivan appears as Octavian, with Soraya Mafi as Sophie von Faninal and Ben McAteer as Herr von Faninal. Finnegan Downie Dear conducts, and Bruno Ravella directs. The opera is sung in German with English supertitles and is a co-production with Santa Fe Opera and Irish National Opera.

Performance Dates: May 28 – June 29, 2026


Then comes Monteverdi’s “Il Ritorno d’Ulisse” with Cecelia Hall as Penelope, Ed Lyon as Ulisse, and Dafydd Jones as Telemaco. Laurence Cummings conducts, and John Caird directs.

Performance Dates: June 12 – July 25, 2026


Finally, “The Importance of Being Earnest” by Gerald Barry closes out the season. The cast includes Zahid Siddiqui as John Worthing, Seán Boylan as Algernon Moncrieff, Jennifer France as Cecily Cardew, Holly Brown as Hon. Gwendolen Fairfax, Susan Bickley as Miss Prism, and Henry Waddington as Lady Bracknell. Douglas Boyd conducts and Jack Furness directs. This production was commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Gustavo Dudamel, and the Barbican.

Performance Dates: July 10- 23, 2026
