By David Salazar

Opera Maine has just announced that it will receive a $2,500 grant from Macy’s for a new initiative, “Opera for All!”

Per a press release, the grant will see the company underwrite tickets for those usually unable to attend professional opera performances. Macy’s support will give 100 tickets to nonprofit agencies throughout Maine so that they can, in turn, provide the tickets to for Opera Maine’s “The Marriage of Figaro” production to people between the ages of 13 and 18 as well as veterans and members of immigrant communities among others.

“Macy’s is committed to giving back to the communities in which our colleagues live and work,” stated Doug Lugenbeel, VP Store Manager of Macy’s in South Portland.  “We are most proud to support Opera Maine’s new program which underwrites opera tickets for under-served populations of young people and others, including veterans.  Creating and celebrating community are at the heart of what we stand for, and we are thrilled to give the gift of Opera Maine to new audiences.”

“The Marriage of Figaro” runs on July 25 and 27, 2018.
