Lyric Opera of Chicago & AGMA Announce Labor Agreement

By David Salazar

The Lyric Opera of Chicago and the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) have announced the agreement of a newly modified labor agreement that extends through the 2020-21 season.

“Together, we have reached our goal of providing our artists with clarity and security, despite the loss of the full opera season, the devastating impacts of the pandemic, and this uncertain climate,” stated Anthony Freud, the Lyric Opera’s general Director, President and CEO.

“We are thankful that we could work together to focus on the health and well-being of the artists whose talents create the art seen and heard on the Lyric Opera stage,” added Len Egert, National Executive Director of AGMA.

The agreement follows weeks after the company announced a similar agreement with the Chicago Federation of Musicians local #10-208.

The company is fully engaged in a digital program for its 2020-21 season.
