Luzerner Theater Unveils 2023-24 Season

The Luzerner Theater has unveiled its 2023-24 season.

First up is Magdalena Fuchsberger’s production of “Dido and Aeneas.” Jonathan Bloxham, in his season debut as Music Director, leads a cast starring Eryún Unnardóttir, Robert Maszel, Tania Lorenzo Castro, and Marcel Rahal, among others.

Performance Dates: August 20 – Sept. 29, 2023

There will be an Opera Gala featuring performances by Solenn’Lavanant Linke, Tania Lorenzo Castro, Robert Maszel, and Ziad Nehme, among others.

Performance Dates: Oct. 22, 2023

Jesse Wong conducts “Hansel and Gretel” in a production by Dirk Schmeding. The opera stars Solenn’Lavanant Linke, Tania Lorenzo Castro, Robert Maszel, Marcela Rahal, and Vladyslav Tlushch.

Performance Dates: Nov. 11 – Dec. 19, 2023

Solenn’Lavanant Linke, Christian Chelebyvev, Daniel Jenz, and Vladyslav Tlushch headline “I Capuleti e I Montecchi.” Jonathan Bloxham conducts.

Performance Dates: Dec. 3, 2023 – Feb. 18, 2024

The company will present an abridged version of “Siegfried” aimed at younger audiences. Ziad Nehme and Marcela Rahal play Siegfried and Brünnhilde, respectively. Brigitte Dethier directs.

Performance Dates: March 2 – 20, 2024 

Jonathan Bloxham conducts “La Bohème” with Tanial Lorenzo Castro, Eryún Unnarsdóttir, Vladyslav Tlushch, Daniel Holzhauser, and Christian Chelebyev.

Performance Dates: March 9 – June 27, 2024

The company will present the Swiss premiere of “Der Dopplegänger,” a new opera by composer Lucia Ronchietti and librettist Katja Petrowskaja.

Performance Dates: April 26 – 28, 2024

The season ends with Vivaldi’s “Giustino.” The opera will be conducted by Joerg Halubek and directed by Markus Dietz. The opera stars Marcela Rahal, Eryún Unnarsdóttir, Tania Lorenzo Castro, and Ziad Nehme.

Performance Dates: May 2 – June 20, 2024
