Lucy Crowe, Barbara Hannigan, Andrew Staples & Magdalena Kožená Lead London Symphony Orchestra’s Second Half of 2021-22 Season

The London Symphony Orchestra has announced the second half of its 2021-22 season at the Barbican and LSO St Luke’s, taking place between January and July 2022.

For the purpose of this article, we will focus on vocal works.

Soprano Siobhan Stagg, the London Symphony Chorus and London Symphony Orchestra perform works by Julian Anderson, Mahler, Rott, Webern, and Dvořák alongside Sir Simon Rattle.

Performance Date: Jan. 9, 2022

Soprano Elena Stikhina and bass Vitalij Kowaljow sing Shostakovich’s Symphony No 14. The program also includes Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. Gianandrea Noseda conducts.

Performance Date: Feb. 3, 2022

Soprano Olena Tokar sings selections of songs by Rachmaninoff and his contemporaries alongside pianist Igor Gryshyn.

Performance Date: Feb. 11, 2022

Soprano and conductor Barbara Hannigan performs music by Copland, Offenbach, and Weill.

Performance Date: Feb. 17, 2022

Soprano and conductor Barbara Hannigan performs Poulenc’s “La voix humaine” and Strauss’ “Metamorphosen.”

Performance Dates: Feb. 23 – 24, 2022

Soprano Lucy Crowe, tenor Andrew Staples, and baritone Roderick Williams present Haydn’s “The Creation” alongside Sir Simon Rattle. Simon Halsey is the chorus director.

Performance Dates: March 3 – 6, 2022

Soprano Nicole Cabell performs Walker’s “Lilacs for voice and orchestra” alongside Sir Simon Rattle.

Performance Date: March 10, 2022

Soprano Sandrine Piau sings music by Saint-Saëns.

Performance Date: March 18, 2022

Mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená sings Weill’s “The Seven Deadly Sins” alongside Sir Simon Rattle.

Performance Date: April 27 – 28, 2022

Soprano NaGuanda Nobles, the London Symphony Chorus and London Symphony Orchestra perform André J Thomas’ “A Celebration of Gospel Music.” The composer conducts.

Performance Date: May 29, 2022

The London Symphony Chorus and London Symphony Orchestra present Dallapiccola’s “Il prigioniero” alongside Sir Antonio Pappano. Simon Halsey is the chorus director.

Performance Date: June 5, 2022
