Lucia Lucas is set to make her Metropolitan Opera debut and premiere a new work.

In a recent interview with OperaNews, the baritone, who was set to make her Met debut during the 2020-21 season as the Bosun in “Billy Budd,” revealed that she will now make her debut in the role of Angelotti in “Tosca” in 2022.

Lucas also revealed that she will reunite with Tobias Picker for the world premiere of his and Aryeh Lev Stollman’s opera “The Danish Girl.” The opera will be adapted from David Ebershoff’s novel, which was famously turned into an Oscar-winning film by Tom Hooper.

Lucas will serve as the production’s dramaturge and she stated, “I wanted to have agency in my storytelling. I didn’t want somebody else to wield power over me in rehearsal. I’ve had that experience and risk my own paycheck by speaking up,” she says. “The artist is there to fulfill somebody else’s vision, but if I’m on the creative team, I can make things nicer, like how we describe Lili, or what we write in the score.”
