The Dallas Opera is set to present the world premiere of “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.”
The opera by composer Joby Talbot and librettist Gene Scheer will star baritone Lucas Meachem and mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke.
The cast will also include tenor Richard Croft, soprano Deanna Breiwick, bass Kevin Burdette, soprano Andriana Chuchman, tenor Andrew Bidlack, soprano Jocelyn Hansen, and Martin Luther Clark in his TDO debut.
In a statement, The Dallas Opera Kern Wildenthal General Director and CEO Ian Derrer said, “’The Diving Bell and the Butterfly’ is the remarkable true story of a man whose determination leads to one of the most poignant memoirs ever written. We are honored to bring this story to our stage for the first time anywhere, as well as to audiences around the globe with our livestream.”
The opera will be performed at the Winspear Opera House and will open on Nov. 3 and run through Nov. 11, 2023. The final performance will be livestreamed on YouTube via digital.dallasopera.org.
