Lucas Macías Navarro Appointed New Artistic Director of Orquesta Ciudad de Granada

The Mayor of Granada and President of the Granada Consortium for Music Luis Salvador has announced that he conductor and oboist Lucas Macías Navarro has been appointed the new Artistic Director of Orquesta Ciudad de Granada.

Lucas Macías Navarro holds the position of Principal Conductor of the Orquesta Oviedo Filarmonía. Macías Navarro has performed with such orchestras as la Orquesta Sinfónica de la Radio Sueca, la Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, la Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre de Chambre de Genève, Filarmónica de Buenos Aires, Orchestre de Cannes, Het Gelders Orkest, la Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, la Real Filharmonía de Galicia, and la Orquesta de Extremadura y Sinfonietta de Lausanne, among others.

Macías Navarro began his musical studies at the age of nine and started with the Heinz Holliger’s oboe class at the University of Freiburg. He continued his studies at the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic. Macías Navarro also studied conducting at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien.

Macías Navarro’s next engagements include conducting of Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra” at the Teatro Cervantes Malaga in October 2020, and Beethoven’s “Fidelio” at the Ópera de Oviedo in December 2020.

The conductor will begin his new post in Granada with concerts on October 2 and 3, 2020. The program will include works by Ravel and Beethoven.
