By Francisco Salazar

The Maggio Musicale Fiorentino has announced a cast change for its upcoming “Rigoletto” production.

The company revealed that Leo Nucci was forced to cancel the production for health reasons. The singer noted that he thanked the company for its secure health measures but on the advice of his doctors, Nucci was forced to cancel his commitments until he obtained the vaccine.

As a result, Luca Salsi will replace Nucci in the title role.

Salsi will join a cast that includes Enkeleda Kamani as Gilda and Javier Camarena as the Duke. The cast will be rounded out by Caterina Piva (Maddalena), Roman Lyulkin (il conte di Monterone) , Alessio Cacciamani (Sparafucile), Valentina Corò (Giovanna), Francesco Venuti (Marullo), Antonio Garès (Borsa), Davide Piva (il conte di Ceprano) , Rosalia Cid (la contessa di Ceprano), Amin Ahangaran (un usciere di corte), and Greta Doveri (un paggio della duchessa).

Riccardo Frizza will conduct the new production by Davide Livermore.

“Rigoletto” will be filmed on Feb. 23 and will be streamed on a date to be announced.
