October 25 marks World Opera Day 2020, and in celebrating the impact the art-form has had worldwide, Opera Europa has partnered with several international organizations to bring opera to audiences across the globe.

The theme for their 2020 edition pays tribute to Beethoven on the 250th year since his birth. To that end, online platform OperaVision will stream three different versions of “Fidelio,” including a concert version, an animated version for children, and a promenade production.

Among the participating companies are Opera Europa, Opera America, Opera Latinoamerica, and Opera for Peace; they will be presenting vocal performances from six continents, featuring artists such as Ai Weiwei, Luca Pisaroni, Sondra Radvanovsky, Ernesto Ottone, Isabel Leonard, Brian Jagde, Elsa Dreisig, Joyce El-Khoury, Peter Sellars, Golda Schultz, and Nicole Car.

A number of companies will also be presenting live or streamed performances, in compliance with local regulations, as they take the first steps towards bringing unity to communities affected by months of isolation.
