Love & Shakespeare Lead in Opera Zuid’s 2021-22 Season
By Logan MartellOpera Zuid has announced its 2021-22 season, comprised of five works with the shared theme of conveying the manifold expressions of love.
Charles Gounoud’s “Romeo et Juliette” will be brought to the staged by the creative team of director Julien Chavaz and conductor Philipp Pointner.
Performance Dates: November 12 – December 11, 2021
Britten’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be led by director Ola Mafaalani and award-winning conductor Karel Deseure.
Performance Dates: May 22, 2022 – June 18, 2022
Based on Dutch author Toon Tellegen’s children’s book, Mathilde Wantenaar’s family-friendly “A Song for the Moon” explores the power of singing and music to connect people.
Performance Dates: October 29 – November 29, 2021
Based on a Brothers Grimm fairy tale, Leonard Evers’ opera for young children, “Gold!,” centers on a fish who make wishes come true, for better or worse.
Performance Dates: May 11 – June 6, 2021
This production of Gluck’s work, “Orphée | L’amour | Eurydice,” is given a new spin via virtual reality, allowing audiences to experience the tragic love story through the eyes of one of the three characters. This presentation comes in partnership with Nederlandse Reisopera and Dutch National Opera.
