Los Angeles Master Chorale to Honor Rufus Wainwright at GALA 2024

By David Salazar

Los Angeles Master Chorale is set to honor Rufus Wainwright during its GALA 2024 on April 29, 2024.

The showcase will feature an exclusive preview of a movement from Wainwright’s “Dream Requiem,” which is co-commissioned by the Los Angeles Master Chorale with the Orchestre Philarmonique de Radio France, Palau de la Musica Barcelona, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, RTE Orchestra Dublin, Royal Ballet London, and the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra. The work is set to make its U.S. premiere during the 2024-25 season.

The “Dream Requiem” is based on Lord Byron’s “Darkness” and the Requiem Mass and “reflects Rufus Wainwright’s enduring fascination with the Requiem form. Wainwright describes the work as ‘the amalgam of two musical and creative ideas, which had been developing side by side for a long time, and which were brought together during the singular dramatic experience of the Covid-19 pandemic that brought the world to a standstill.’”

All proceeds from the GALA 2024 will benefit the Los Angeles Master Chorale.
