Los Angeles Master Chorale Cancels ‘Messiah,’ Announces ‘Carols on the Plaza’

By David Salazar

The Los Angeles Master Chorale canceled its 40th annual “Messiah” Sing-Along presentation.

The showcase, which was originally scheduled for Dec. 20, 2021, was annulled due to health precautions after receiving an orientation from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

Instead, the company will present a free outdoor concert, “Carols on the Plaza” on Dec. 20, 2021 starting at 6 p.m. PT at Jerry Moss Plaza at The Music Center.

This new event will feature 20 Master Chorale singers be led by Grant Gershon, the Kiki & David Gindler Artist Director, and Jenny Wong, Associate Artistic Director. Audiences will hear a program replete with such holiday favorites as “Saying The Halls,” ” Frosty The Snowman, “” Joy to the World,” “Silver Bells,” and (for those disappointed in the cancelation of the annual “Messiah”) the famed “Hallelujah” chorus.

Since this event is set to be presented outdoors, attendees will not need to present proof of vaccination. Instead, they will be asked to comply with biosafety regulations, such as the use of face masks.
