Los Angeles Master Choral Receives Major Gift from NEA

The Los Angeles Master Choir, directed by Grant Gershow and David Gindler, will be awarded $50,000 for artistic projects and supporting virtual content, including the upcoming premiere of the opera “Earth Seen from Above” and the premiere of composer Derrick Spiva. , Jr’s “Ready, Bright”, commissioned by the Angels Master Chorale.

On May 16, 2021, both videos will be presented at the ensemble’s next virtual gala, along with “TraKeKiTa” by the composer Reena Esmail as part of a triptych titled “Shine Bright;” the program will feature the 100 Master Chorale singers.

The videos for “Earth Seen from Above” and “Ready, Bright” will also be released at a future date to be announced.

“The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support this project from the Master Chorale,” said Arts Endowment Acting Chairman Ann Eilers in a press release. “The Master Chorale is among the arts organizations across the country that have demonstrated creativity, excellence, and resilience during this very challenging year.”

Jean Davidson, President and CEO of the Los Angeles Master Chorale, added that the organization will continue to produce choral music in virtual form and expressed his gratitude to the NEA, especially during these challenging times.
