Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra Names New Composer in Residence

By David Salazar

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) has announced the appointment of Huang Ruo as Composer in Residence for three years.

During his tenure, the Chinese-born / New York-based composer will compose a new chamber symphony for the ensemble, which will be premiered in 2027-28. Before that premiere, he will get to know the ensemble and work in a curatorial role as part of the artistic leadership team. He will curate the 2026-27 CURRENT series, which explores musical programs on specific themes in non-traditional venues.

Additionally, the ensemble will present several of his existing works throughout the 2025-26 season, including “Tipping Point,” which was commissioned by the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra.

“What drew me to want to become part of the LACO Family, is its excellency, innovation, and openness to new ideas and inspirations from other cultures,” said Ruo in an official press release.
