By David Salazar

The American Opera Project will be hosting two concert performances this weekend, which are aimed at raising funds for the AOP 2020 Relief Fund Campaign.

The first concert, “Lean on Me,” takes places on May 23, 2020 at 4 p.m. EDT. The performance will feature Lori Laitman and Tom Cipullo as they take on American Song.

Fifty percent of proceeds from this concert will go to The New Music Solidarity Fund, which provides aid to musicians impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.

On May 24, the company will showcase a concert entitled “An Essential Honor,” a concert hosted by Tony award-winner Tamara Tunie. Starting at 7 p.m. EDT, the performance will star Sasha Cooke, Elsa Davis, Kelly Markgraf, Idith Meshulam, Karim Sulayman, Gordon Chambers, and Christian Sands.

Ten percent of donations during this livestream will be sent to Figure Skating in Harlem, which supports girls of color and helps them transform their lives.

The performances can be viewed on the AOP website.
