L’Opéra Grand Avignon has announced that it will reopen its doors at the beginning of the new 2021-22 season.

“The renovation works of the Opéra Grand Avignon are coming to an end. In the coming weeks, the artistic, technical, and administrative teams will be able to return to the historic building and take charge of the new equipment,” said the French opera house in an official statement. “However, taking into account the uncertainty which weighs heavily on the date and the conditions of reopening of the cultural places to the public, it was decided to postpone the official inauguration of the Opéra center-ville until the beginning of the 2021-2022 season,” added L’Opéra Grand Avignon.

France has been under a strict lockdown since the end of October 2020. The French government recently announced that the lockdown could end in mid-April if COVID-19 cases decrease.
