Long Beach Opera Appoints New Music Director

The Long Beach Opera in California has announced the appointment of Christopher Rountree as the new Music Director.

Rountree is the founder and Artistic Director of Wild Up and is a well-known conductor who has made a name for himself in contemporary music and opera. He has conducted in Los Angeles, New York City, and Paris. He has also collaborated with Long Beach Opera’s Artistic Director James Darrah.

In addition to conducting, Rountree is a distinguished composer who has presented compositions and concerts at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Palais Garnier, Mile High Stadium, the Coliseum, the Echoplex, Kennedy Center, Philadelphia Museum of Art, ACE Hotel, National Sawdust, MCA Denver, The Hammer, The Getty, a basketball court in Santa Cruz, and at Lincoln Center on the New York Philharmonic’s Biennale.

In his new position, Rountree will conduct at least one project per season beginning in 2022 with a new production of Handel’s “Giustino.”
