Long Beach Opera Announces Interim Artistic Advisor for 2021 Season

By David Salazar

Long Beach Opera has announced that Yuval Sharon will be the company’s Interim Artistic Advisor for the 2021 season.

Sharon will not only curate the 2021 season, but will also direct one of the productions. He founded and serves as Artsitic Director for The Industry in Los Angeles, a company that is dedicated to new and experimental opera. Sharon also completed a three-year residency with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and was given a 2017 MacArthur Fellowship.

“When I founded The Industry here in 2010, I knew I was building off a culture of innovation in the LA region that Long Beach Opera played a significant role in shaping,” Yuval Sharon said in a press release. “LBO’s 40-year history has opened up so many possibilities for artists in Southern California. I see my assignment as Interim Artistic Advisor as a chance to honor that history, and it offers me another opportunity to deepen my commitment to the audiences and artists in Southern California.”

Long Beach Opera is currently searching for its next Artistic Director to replace current Artistic and General Director Andreas Mitisek, who is due to leave his position with the company at the end of the 2020 season.
