London Festival of American Music Announces 2021 Slate, Including Major U.K. Premiere

The London Festival of American Music has announced its 2021 slate.

For the purposes of this article, our focus will be on operatic and vocal performances.

First up will be a concert showcase featuring music by Margaret Bonds, August Read Thomas, Odaline de la Martinez, Fred Lerdahl, and Florence Price. The performance will star mezzo-soprano Simone Ibbett-Brown alongside the Lontano Ensemble. There will also be a pre-concert panel on the Black Renaissance in the U.S. and abroad, led by Joan Anim Addo.

Performance Dates: Sept. 13, 2021

The company will also present the U.K. premiere of Laura Kaminsky, Mark Campbell, and Kimberly Reed’s “As One.” The opera will star Simon Wallfisch and Ariene Rolph with Odaline de la Martinez conducting the Lontano String Quartet. Benjamin Davis directs and will be featured in a Q & A session alongside de la Martinez and the cast after the performances.
