Lithuanian National Opera to Present ‘I Capuleti e i Montecchi’

The Lithuanian National Opera is set to resent “Bellini’s “I Capuleti e i Montecchi.”

The opera will be conducted by Bel Canto specialist Sesto Quatrini with which he debuted on the podium of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre in June 2017.

The revival of the Vincent Boussard production is set to star Raffaella Lupinacci, Lucrezia Drei, Davide Giusti and Antonio Di Matteo.

According to Quatrini his approach to the work is “enriched by the experience of the last few years in which I have studied ‘La Sonnambula’ and ‘Norma,’ also by Bellini, in addition to broad experience of the Belcanto repertoire, including Rossini, Mercadante, Donizetti and others. Of this experience, the most important, fascinating and informative thing for me was without doubt at the Festival della Valle d’Itria in 2018, conducting and recording the ‘fraternal twin,’ or perhaps the elder sister, of I Capuleti: ‘Giulietta e Romeo’ by Nicola Vaccaj, based on the same libretto by Felice Romani, which preceded Bellini’s opera by five years. The fact that I have had the privilege of conducting both works has given me a deep insight into the similarities and differences between these two operas and has also allowed me to take another look, between the lines and in a more self-critical vein, at my first reading of I Capuleti, in addition to understanding Bellini’s indications and intentions in greater depth.”

“I Capuleti e i Montecchi” is set to be performed between Oct. 12 and 15.
