Lisette Oropesa, Juan Diego Flórez, Erwinn Schrott, Javier Camarena Headline Gstaad Menuhin Festival & Academy’s 2021 Season

The Gstaad Menuhin Festival & Academy has announced its 2021 slate.

For the purposes of this article, our focus will be on opera related performances.

It all kicks off with “Daniel Hope & Friends II – Menuhin in London II” which will feature VOCES8 and violinist Daniel Hope as they take on music by Britten, Elgar, Tallis, Byrd, and many more.

Performance Date: July 19, 2021

The King’s Singers will perform “Royal Blood” which includes songs by Bryd, Purcell, Weelkes, Tomkins, Britten, and Rodney Bennett, among others.

Performance Date: July 20, 2021

Daniel Hope and Friend III will feature baritone Thomas Hampson and others as they take on music by Britten, Haydn, Vaughan Williams, and Beethoven.

Performance Date: July 22, 2021

Mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter and bass Roderick Williams will take on “Shakespeare in Songs” by Schubert, Korngold, Britten, Haydn, and Rufus Wainwright, among others.

Performance Date: July 23, 2021

Audiences will get a chance to hear “God Save the King!” featuring Handel’s “Te Deum for the Victory at the Battle of Dettingen” as well as other Coronation Anthems.

Performance Date: July 24, 2021

The Tenebrae Choir will perform music by Holst, Gurney, Bringham, Vaughan Williams, Parry, and Howells, among others.

Performance Date: August 8, 2021

Lisette Oropesa, Javier Camarena, Erwin Schrott, Annalisa Stroppa, and George Petean will headline “I Puritani” as conducted by Domingo Hindoyan.

Performance Date: August 28, 2021

Tenor Juan Diego Flórez joins forces with the Sinfonía por el Perú and Hugo Carrio in a concert of arias and music from Peru.

Performance Date: Sept. 3, 2021
