Lisenka Heijboer Castañón Wins Götz Friedrich Prize

Dutch-Peruvian director Lisenka Heijboer Castañón has won the Götz Friedrich Prize for the 2023-4 season. 

The director won for her production of John Adams’s “The Gospel According to the Other Mary” at the Volksoper Wien.

The prize is one of the most important recognitions for promoting outstanding talent in the field of music theatre directing. Past winners have included Stefan Herheim, Nadja Loschky, and Sebastian Baumgarten.

The prize includes 5,000 euros, and a studio prize, endowed with 2,500 euros.

Heijboer Castañón made her main stage debut at the Dutch National Opera in 2020 and has worked at the Santa Fe Opera. She has also worked with The Royal Concertgebouw and has assisted such directors as Pierre Audi, Krzysztof Warlikowski, Monique Wagemakers, and Laurent Pelly.
